The Bass Harbor Head Light in Acadia National Park, Maine

Bass Harbor Head Light Station in Acadia

This is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Acadia National Park and the complete park system. The Bass Harbor Head Light was built in 1858 with the $5,000 appropriated by the U.S. Congress based upon a determination that there was sufficient need for one here. It has saved numerous lives during very foggy days and nights along the rocky coastal waters of MDI.
