Attentive Awareness

Greg A. Hartford, photographer, author, publisherVery early in the morning when the light level is low, I will have my camera set-up on a tripod with a shutter release cable attached. This is necessary in order to maintain the sharpness that is required. But once the sun is high enough and the light level has increased to a certain level, I remove my camera from the tripod, make sure that the stabilization is now on, and begin shooting hand-held at lower apertures. There is a point in harbors like this when many things can be unfolding at once in multiple directions. You have to be ready to capture things very quickly or the image will be lost.
