| This photo shows part of Schoodic Island as viewed from Acadia National
Park at Schoodic Peninsula in
Maine. The sixty-seven-acre Schoodic Island, managed by The Nature Conservancy
and Acadia National Park, is a nesting site for American bald eagles
and other seabirds. It is a place where 1% or more of Maine's seabird
population nests and is closed from February 15 - August 31 to protect
the species (or, until it is determined that nesting is not occurring
on the island, as determined by the park wildlife biologist). The island
is part of the municipality of Winter Harbor. |
