Stave Island & Grand Princess Cruise
Five hundred acre Stave Island is on the western side of Gouldsboro, Maine in Frenchman Bay. (In the image above, it is the long island in the background in front of the mainland.) Its eastern side has several sandy beach areas that provide good landing sites for boats. The western side has bold granite ledges that provide spectacular views of Mount Desert Island. Stave Island has been a popular destination for kayakers, sailers, and naturalists. It currently has a 45 acre preserve owned and operated by the Maine Coast Heritage Trust.
This photo, showing the Grand Princess Cruise Ship, was captured from Cadillac Mountain on Mount Desert Island. The land on the bottom is in Bar Harbor.
