Looking toward Sand Beach from Thunder Hole at low tide

North View from Thunder Hole at Sunrise

When the first rays of sunlight illuminate the granite cliffs along the shore near Thunder Hole, the rocks can take on a striking orange or red hue, as shown in this image taken on the eastern side of Mount Desert Island in Acadia. This effect is particularly pronounced with pink granite when it is wet or damp. On the horizon to the north lies the cove with Sand Beach.
