Flowers like Pillars of Light
These flowers appeared like pillars of light when the sunshine first touched them early this morning in Thuya Garden. They are like nature's centuries standing guard over the well being of the garden below them in the shadows. The high-contrast scene works well here. When photographing this, it is important to get a light reading off of the highlights. Otherwise, your light meter with determine the scene is too dark and will let in much more light than needed in order to lighten the dark background, resulting with burnt out highlights. Image is from a 35mm transparency.
