Thunder Hole & Otter Cliff - Acadia National Park
This image shows the intense splash-back that can occurs at Thunder Hole in Acadia National Park during stormy seas, when waves hit the inlet area beyond the railings at just the right angle. Thunder Hole is located on the eastern side of Mount Desert Island, Maine, which faces the rising sun (out of frame on the left). By selecting a vantage point from either the northern or southern side, the photographer enhanced the contrast and dramatic effect through strong, perpendicular side lighting. Additionally, Otter Cliff is visible in the distance, adding another point of interest.
