Mount Katahdin viewed from Abol Bridge in Northern Maine

Mount Katahdin from Abol Bridge

This view of Mount Katahdin, located in Baxter State Park, is from the single lane Abol Bridge on the Golden Road in Northern Maine which crosses over the West Branch of the Penobscot River. It was about 7:30 PM on August 18. To the right is part of Abol Bridge Campground & Store. There is also a bunkhouse and breakfast area, a much desired place for hikers who have traveled the Appalachian Trail. The main bridge moves a little when vehicles cross over. However, there is a separate walking section not impacted by those vehicles. The pedestrian section does shake and sway a when someone is walking or simply shifting their weight on it which certainly impacts any photo capture attempts, especially when using a tripod. A strong wind can have the same effect. The view is often spectacular as shown here. Some image capture specs: Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon 24-105mm L Series f/4.0 Lens at 24mm, f/16 and 0.4 Seconds, ISO 160. (August 18 at 7:27 PM)
