Experimentation

One of the challenges in creating good images is coming up with an interesting composition. A good exercise is to see how many different points of view you can discover, and be able to capture effectively. The footbridge in Somesville, Maine is a very good subject in this regard as the arch itself, combined with the setting, offers such a unique challenge with some interesting payoffs. Each time I photograph something, I try to explore a variety of possible compositions. When there is a wide difference in lighting situations, as it often is here, I have to pay close attention to my camera aperture and shutter speed settings. If I want the depth of field, I often will have to use a tripod to be safe.
