Manset view of Somes Sound - Southwest Harbor, ME
Manset, part of Southwest Harbor, provides spectacular views of Somes Sound such as in this panoramic sunrise photograph. Southwest Harbor is a well-known boat building community on Mount Desert Island, home of Acadia National Park.
The view is north from the shore of a well-known Manset inn. Note the rounded moutains in the distance. This was caused many thousands of years ago by glaciers, as much as two miles high, that sheared off and scapped the tops of the mountains. The time-of-year that this image was taken was July 27 at about 7:33 AM. Image Specs: Canon 5D with 24-105mm f/4 L Series at 105mm, 1/30 sec, f/22, ISO 200. Seven different images were merged.

There is a Stillness on the Waters
It is true that there is a stillness just before the dawn. If we are lucky, that stillness lasts as much as an hour after the sun first shines above the horizon. Gradually, the air begins to heat up and slight swirls of the morning’s first breath caresses the surface of the water and begins to gently shake the shore-side grass. These are magical times for the early risers. The truly fortunate ones get to relax and enjoy the unfolding moments one-by-one.
