A Hub of Activity on the Quiet Side
From the shore-side Route 102 location as shown above, several mountains can be seen as well as a wide variety of yachts, sailboats, lobster boats, and simple dinghies. Many things have evolved from over a century ago when steamships would travel to the wharves in Southwest Harbor from points southwest such as Boston. But there is still a timeless quality felt here that have roots in many generations of sailors and boat-builders. It is this that call upon many to return here each year to experience and enjoy the lifestyle, the fresh ocean air, and the wonderful views, not to mention, the pace of living.
